Lecture Recorder
A macOS app that records lectures, transcribes them, and lets Codex turn each course into Obsidian notes.
What it does
I record each lecture on my Mac and type my own notes next to the live transcript. Later, one button sends the backlog of a course to Codex. Codex writes one note per lecture into my Obsidian vault.
It is a native SwiftUI app with no third-party dependencies.
How it works
- Transcription. Apple SpeechAnalyzer runs on the device and shows the text live. The other option is Microsoft MAI-Transcribe-2 through OpenRouter. It transcribes the saved audio after the lecture.
- Attachments. Slides, PDFs and readings attach to a lecture, before or after the recording.
- Processing. Only a manual action starts Codex. The Codex CLI runs in a sandbox that can write only to the folder of that course.
Safety rules
An agent writes into my notes, so the app checks its work before it publishes it:
- The transcripts, my own notes and the attachments are protected. If the agent changes or deletes them, the app rejects the result.
- The app also rejects symlinks and path traversal.
- A lecture is complete only when its note exists and contains the ID of the lecture.
- Each job keeps a snapshot of the course from before the job.
The tests use a fake Codex executable. They make no real model calls.
Status
I started it on 2026-09-13. The app is not notarized, and live transcription needs macOS 26. It is a tool for me, not a product.
